Todd's later elementary school years saw him experimenting with different media. Crayons were still used, but class projects pushed him to try more construction paper (since he could now be trusted to be careful with scissors), and his concurrent experiences with drawing comicbooks led him to try fine-point markers more often. One class project even had him drawing entirely in pencil.
Todd was a prolific LEGO sculptor, but only one of these works has survived, with the rest of them having been cannibalised for later works.
Furthermore, his art became more topical. Drawings were done to illustrate book reports, for example, and they no longer stood on their own for their own sake. He created puppets for the purpose of telling a science fiction story he'd made up. And judging from the report cover presented here, like so many great artists, his attention turned to drugs.
